About NID DAT 2015:-


National Institute of Design is not only India’s best but also ranks high among the best design institutes in the world.  NID DAT 2015 Entrance exam is the best kick-start  for a career in design. NID conducts this exam for its four year graduate Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programs offered by Ahmedabad campus and two and half year post graduate Master of Design (M.Des.) programs at Ahmedabad Gandhinagar & Bengaluru campuses.



Important Dates for NID DAT 2015:

  • Last date for receiving the completed application forms at NID is:- November 21, 2014 (Friday)
  • DAT 2015 for B. Des. (at all centres):- JANUARY 11, 2015 (Sunday).
  • DAT 2015 for M. Des (at all centres):- JANUARY 10, 2015.(Saturday)

The BACHELOR OF DESIGN programme starts with a two semester rigorous foundation programme followed by three years of specialized studies in any one of the following disciplines offered in B.DES by NID.

Candidates having a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent including those who will be appearing for the qualifying examinations during the academic year (2014-15) in the areas mentioned above in each discipline are eligible to apply. Successful candidates shall be given admission to the academic programme, by the institute, subject to their passing the qualifying examinations.

NID DAT 2015 Exam Eligibility:-

Educational Qualification for B.Des: 10+2 from recognized board or university or equivalent qualification like AISSCE/IB or ISE.

a. Upper age limit: 20 years
b. Relaxation in age:by 3 years in case of reserved category candidates.

Educational Qualification for M.Des: Bachelors degree in concerned discipline from recognized university.

a. Upper age Limit: 30 years
b. Relaxation in age: by 3 years for SC/ST candidates.

• STEP 04: Draw a demand draft in favor of the “National Institute of Design” payable at Ahmedabad. This serves as application fee
• STEP 05:Completed application forms with supporting documents and demand draft must be sent by either post or delivered directly to any of the following addresses.

Important Instructions for SC/ST and OBC candidates

a. Reserved category candidates are required to submit caste or category certificates. These relevant certificates and documents must be as per the rules and regulations prescribed by the Government of India.
b. Other Backward class candidates are required to submit non-creamy layer certificate issued by the Collectorate. For the format of the same click here
c. PH or Physically handicapped candidates are required to submit a certificate from the Chief Medical Officer (minimum 40 percent disability).

List of documents to be submitted for B.Des:-


  • B.Des. Hall Ticket (both copies) duly filled in with recent passport size photographs.
  • Self attested copies of SSC & HSC marksheets (those who are studying presently in HSC, must submit bonafide certificate from the school/ college).
  • Self attested copy of relevant certificate indicating Date of Birth (Upper age limit as on 1st June, 2015 is 20 years for General category– Relaxable by 3 years for Reserved categories).
  • For General Category: The candidates born before 1st June, 1995 are not eligible.
  • For Reserved Categories: The candidates born before 1st June, 1992 are not eligible.
  • Self attested copy of relevant Caste/Category certificate issued by competent authority for SC/ST/PH/OBC non-creamy layer candidates wherever applicable. 

List of documents to be submitted for M.Des:-


  • M.Des. Hall Ticket (both copies) duly filled in with recent passport size photographs.
  • Self attested copies of marksheets of SSC, HSC, completed years of Graduation and Degree certificate / Provisional certificate / Passing certificate (those who are studying presently in final year of graduation must submit bonafide certificate from the college).
  • Self attested copy of relevant certificate indicating Date of Birth (Upper age limit as on 1st June, 2015 is 30 years for General category– Relaxable by 3 years for Reserved categories).
  • For General Category: The candidates born before 1st June, 1985 are not eligible.
  • For Reserved Categories: The candidates born before 1st June, 1982 are not eligible.
  • Self attested copy of relevant Caste/Category certificate issued by competent authority for SC/ST/PH/OBC non-creamy layer candidates wherever applicable.
Application Fee:-





• Rs 1500 in case of General Category candidates
• Rs 750 in case of SC/ST candidates

Please note that the payment of application fee can be made only through demand draft.

NID DAT 2015 Paper Pattern:

Part 01- Design aptitude test


• Duration:Three hours (180 minutes)
• Marks:100 marks
• Sections: Design problem solving, Observation and perception, Environmental awareness, Communication skills.


Part 02- Studio Test/Personal Interview and Portfolio Presentation.
