Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology (SCTIMST) is an Institute of National Importance established in the year 1974 by the government of Kerala. The concept of amalgamating medical sciences and technology within a single institutional framework was regarded as sufficiently important by the Government of India to declare the center as an Institute of National Importance under the Department of Science and Technology by an Act of Parliament in 1980, and named it as Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Trivandrum.
