Shivaji University is named after the Great Maratha Warrior and founder of the Maratha empire Chhatrapati Shivaji was started in the year 1962 to cater to the regional needs of South Maharashtra. It is encouraging merit by introducing a unique scheme called 'Shivaji University Merit Scholarship' offering 500 scholarships to meritorious students in affiliated colleges.

The College campus is situated in Kolhapur city of Maharashtra with well architected infrastructure. The campus includes facilities such as auditorium, separate hostels for men and women, sports complex, library, labs, well equipped classrooms, canteen, etc.
Special Features:-
• University imparts education in 10 major faculties of Arts, Social Science, Science, Commerce, Education, Fine Arts, Law, Medicine, Ayurvedic Medicine, Engineering and Technology.
• The jurisdiction of the University is spread over three districts with strength of about 3,00,000 students studying in 271 affiliated colleges and recognised institutes.
• It has recently signed MOU with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai for research in Material Science.
