IAS Syllabus 2014 for Preliminary, Main Exam
The UPSC exam calendar 2014 has been announced. The dates for IAS preliminary and mains civil service examination 2014 have also been announced. The Indian Administrative Services Examination is conducted in two parts. The first part of the exam is known as Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) while the second is the main examination.
The objective of the CSAT exam is to the test candidate’s ability for reasoning and critical thinking. IAS Syllabus for Preliminary Exam enlists important topics that need to be covered for General Science Paper I and II. The first section of the paper concentrates on current events of national and international importance while the second section of the paper focuses on comprehension, communication, interpersonal skills and general mathematical ability.
Since 2013 there has been a slight change in the pattern for IAS Civil Services Main Exam. There are four compulsory papers of General studies and there is only one optional paper instead of two and a compulsory essay paper.
To understand the IAS Syllabus in a better manner it is important to understand the Scheme of the civil services examination. Below is the paper pattern for the CSAT and Main Exam.
CSAT (Civil Service Aptitude Test):-
•Sections: General Science Paper I and General Science Paper II.
•Duration per section: 2 hours (120 minutes).
•Marks per section: 200 marks.
•Type of Questions: Objective type.
Civil Services Main Examination:-
•Type of Examination: Written Examination and interview.
•Four compulsory General Studies paper.
•One optional paper.
•Compulsory papers.
Following is IAS Syllabus for preliminary services examination. The exam consists of two compulsory papers of 200 marks each.
GENERAL STUDIES PAPER-I
•Duration:2 hours (120 minutes)
•Marks:200 marks
•Current events and affairs of national and international importance.
•Indian History and the Indian National Movement.
•India and World Geography: Physical, Social, Economic
•Indian Polity and Governance- constitution and political setup.
•System, Panchayati Raj, Public policies, rights and issues.
•Economic and Social Development, sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics and social sector initiatives.
•General issues on environmental ecology, biodiversity and climate change.
GENERAL STUDIES PAPER- II
•Duration: 2 hours (120 minutes)
•Marks: 200 marks
•Interpersonal and Communication Skills.
•Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability.
•Problem Solving and Decision making.
•General Mental Ability.
•Basic Numeracy (Numbers and their relations, order of magnitude,etc). (Class X level) Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency).
